I live in Florida. I moved down from Indiana, so I know a little of what you are talking about :-) So strange to have Christmas without snow!

As for the worm tea, I got the idea from a video on youtube of a guy who uses compost tea to feed his aquaponics setup.

I have been killing fish in testing various things so, I am not sure of my methods yet. I am having alot of fun and slowly I am growing plants.

Since I have a 3,000 power microscope, I intend to start looking at the bacteria to try to get an idea of population density, and how to make it go better. I don't know what each type of bacteria looks like but with time I hope to get an better idea. I do know there are TONS of bacteria in the worm tea, but as I think about it, it may be the wrong type that is needed. I am thinking I need a sample from a tank that is established so I can multiply them. But again, I am a dangerous newbie LOL since I can catch more bluegill from the lake I have been living dangerously with the fish trying different things like seeing how long they will live without an air pump hooked up but only the pump running.

This is a look at my setup. It is outside. Congrates on getting your system cycled.

I jump stated my system by dumping a bucket of lake water in.

Interesting you are using fungi, I also have cultured fungi for my seeds with Microgrow, but have not added it to my Aquaponics setup. I have dumped in some of the worm tea from my two bins of red worms.

Yes it does help with the filtering. Since the water from my fish tank goes through the filter, then into the clean tank, then overflows back to the fish tank, my water stays very clean. It also offers another breading ground for bacteria. Just today my system has finished cycling, 0 ammonia, 1.0 ppm nitrites, and about 40 ppm nitrates. I dont know if you have added any bacterial additives to your system or not? I added one that helps cycle fish aquariums and i also added a micro root fungi and bacterial mix to the system. I think this combination has helped expediate my cycling. I had started a thread about the use of my fungi/bacteria mix and got some good feedback. Do you have any pictures of your system? Are you indoors or a greenhouse?

Yes I saw your other videos, I liked the shower drain idea. Does this help with filtering the water? I am currently trying what I saw mentioned of putting a sock on the exit drain into the main tank, it seems to be helping. My system is just a few months old as well, waiting for those bacteria to come alive.

The worms seem to be working well. None of them have tryed to escape so that typicaly means they are happy with the environment. I actually reciently had to replace the pearlite i had in the filter with larger grain. There were too many fine particles clogging the sediment filter and it backed up a bit. I washed it all well to rinse off the fine powder and grit just like adding any medium to a system. My system is still young but doing very well. I dont know if you saw the other video i poasted, but i enlarged the filter. I havnt added any more worms yet but i plan on doing a head count after three months to see if any reproduced.

Ok hand over the orange trees :-) that looks awesome.

How did adding the worms to your filter work? I like the idea for the filter alot.
