Are you an aquaponic gardener already?
no
Please tell us something else about yourself.
I have been working with hydroponic/aeroponic for more then 10 years, designing and building custom made aeroponic systems for difrent purpose.

I have worked in Denmark, Holland, England and Australia with different aspects of the greenhouse industry - Mainly optimizing old fashion greenhouses with subliment light, hydro/aeroponic growing and helping them establishing a healthy mother culture and produce cuttings.

Hi Pali: Thanks for your comment. In the USA, there are several large, economically viable commercial aquaponic systems in use. There are only a handful of experienced people, however, who can successfully retrofit commercial hydroponic systems (and have actually done so). Once it's been done, most experienced hydroponic growers are fairly easily trained on the new system. Weather is not an issue, as we use climate controlled greenhouses. In northern regions you would need high quality grow lights for the winter months, but lighting appears to be something you are already very good at. Here in the U.S., most aquaponic growers focus on fish, maximizing that crop as it trends to be the big money maker. As the floral market recovers from the recession, however, we expect flower growers and propagation companies transition to aquaponics, as well, due to the long term cost savings over traditional hydroponics, increased revenues from the second crop (freshwater fish) and superior sustainability aspects of this method of agriculture. Hence, we have a Dutch expert in hydroponic cultivation (most recently floral propagation) with decades of experience in Europe and the U.S. on our team, especially to assist with these transitions. If you would like to learn more about Shwava, Inc. and discuss potential opportunities for collaboration, please feel free to contact me at susan@shwava.com.

Hi Pali -- welcome! I'm actually converting a hydroponic greenhouse in Santa Barbara, CA that has been used for flower propagation into an aquaponic greenhouse that will grow veggies, herbs and fish. We hope to start the retrofit later this summer. Do you think there might be interest in Denmark & Holland in this type of transition? If so, we should talk.
