"In order to use those rocks you would have to seen no bubbles at all. so I will recommend that you don't use that rock. if that is not an option then keep exposing the rock to vinegar until the rocks no longer create no more bubbles. "

Vinegar test

This has probably been talked about before. I have not searched too much in the archives. I bought a bag of river pebble at Menards. I scooped up a jar full, washed it, and filled the bar with vinegar. It bubble profusely for a couple hrs then the bubbles pretty much quit. Is that stone usable? How much bubbling is too much bubbling?

introduction and thoughts on a new system

I am fairly new to the group and ready to get my feet wet...so to speak. I have been chatting with Jeff S. Off group and getting advice (thanks Jeff), but I thought I maybe should broaden my scope and not pester Jeff to death lol.I am hoping to start my first system in the basement. I live in northwest Indiana so wintertime aquaponics demands a basement or a greenhouse....I have a basement. I am thinking barrelponics with a 2-4 half barrel media GB setup.
