"Hi Jose - I don't think the CHOP2 System is under pressure - you should rather think about constant volume flow - thus the inflow and outflow should equal for a said time period. You'll also T-off some of your flow to your grow…"

"Pieter, I have decided to use  1" thinwall tubing, and as you said, if the pressure in is greater than what the outlet can handle, then the return line will have to kick in. I don't really see what would be the use of an enormous…"

"Hi José 'First order the 1" seems to do the job - but you'll also need to consider ease of maintenance Note the outlet is gravity feed and the outlet must be able to handle the inflow - else you'll need an overflow return…"

What is a good width for the SLO?

Hello, so, in a CHOP Mark2 kind of system, for a 55gal drum barrel fish tank, what would you experienced people recommend? As far as I understand the whole idea of the SLO is to move bottom solids away from the fish by suction, and that suction down the escape tube depends on the inbound flow rate from the pump. In my case I have an Active Aqua 400GPH pump, but there is a 1000GPH thing shipped my way soon to arrive Would 1 inch plumbing do the job? Or would you use 1 1/2 inches? Here is my…See More

What uniseal size should I use

Hello, I am building system with 55 gallon drums, and instead of bell syphons, I would like to use U-Syphons. Here is the question: I bought thin wall PVC tube which is 2 1/4" wideI can't seem to find a uniseal of such width. When I ordered the tube, I said 2", and when I got home and measured the inner diameter of the tube, it was not exactly 2"....Could someone please please clarify??See More

"I'd go for the livestock sprue. It has a nice height/width ratio and the circular shape with smooth bottom means you can deal with solids via a center drain or SLO. "

I´ve always been frantic when it comes to ways of producing with very little expense. I remember being barely a schoolboy when I first began designs to farm rain water for toilet use.

Nowadays, I have been gradually seduced by the idea of a self sustaining ecosystem that can feed my family, right there on our small backyard!
