Hello. Does anyone know of any Aquaponics Workshops in the NYC Area?
I recently created a hydroponic drip window farm using non-chemical nutrients and plastic-free parts.
http://picasaweb.google.com/jennaspevack/WindowFarm#I'd like to learn more about Aquaponics, so that I can convert my window farm.
Thanks!

Edible Estates: Attack on the Front Lawn
On April 8th, 2010, Fritz Haeg and Metropolis Books will celebrate the release of the new edition of Edible Estates: Attack on the Front Lawn with a lively conversation at WNYC’s Greene Space exploring the possibilities for publicly growing food in the most unlikely of places - on the streets where we live, in the middle of our cities, and in particular, in New York City.

Participants in the conversation will include the most prominent national and local voices on the subject, including Fritz Haeg, artist, designer, radical gardener, and author of Edible Estates; Will Allen, contributor to the book, and MacArthur winning founder of Milwaukee- based Growing Power; Annie Novak, founder of Rooftop Farms in Greenpoint; and Scott Stringer, Manhattan Borough President and the force behind "FoodNYC: A Blueprint for a Sustainable Food System," the most comprehensive effort to date to unify and reform New York City's policies regarding the production, distribution, consumption, and disposal of food. Panelists will tell stories of projects, gardens and urban farms that are already in the ground as provocative examples of what New York, and other cities, might look like in the future.
The new edition of Edible Estates: Attack on the Front Lawn will be available for purchase.
Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 7:00 PM
Duration: 2 hours

There is also a professor at Brooklyn College who has does aquaculture named Martin Schreibman. Here's a youtube video of him: . I don't think that he does workshops but he might know how to get started. Let me know if you find anything because I'm really interested in aquaponics myself and am trying to learn more about it so that maybe I can develop a system in the Dominican Republic for my thesis.
Good luck!
Katie
Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a great place to meet fellow aquapons, share videos and photos, chat, and learn. I see that you aren't an aquaponic gardener already, but you've come to the right place - we already have several world-class experts in the group.
I've started the ball rolling with a few general forum topics, and will try to add more on a regular basis, but I’m hoping that you and others will add your own topics as they occur to you. I’ve also added some of my favorite videos and a few random photos…again, please share your favorites with us!
We have just a few simple rules: stay on the subject of aquaponics and keep it cordial (no flaming!). If someone decides to break these rules they will get a warning, and then be banned from the community after that. But I’m hoping that never happens!
I’m new to forum management and this is a new forum, so any and all suggestions are welcome.
Please invite all your aquaponic friends to join us (Facebook? Twitter?). We need a ton of people in here so we can really get rolling!
Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you.
Sylvia
