Winter Spawning in Hawaii

Hey folks - growing red, black, golden and mottled (koilapia) tilapia here.  They love warm water!Water temperature in tanks can reach lows around 70f in the early mornings here in winter.  I would like to encourage spawning in my quarantined fish (3 females/ 1 male).  Should I be putting a heater on that tank?  They just want to go dormant this time of year.  I want them to think it is time to spawn year round!Anyone know mean daily temperature for optimal breeding?  I was thinking at least…See More

"This is a good thread with excellent points made by experienced and new growers.  Best to use grow media beds followed in series by a flow bed.  Each has its strengths as pointed out below."

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community!  I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics.  There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions.  Everyone is quite happy to help out new members--no question is too basic.
