I'm in the beginning to plan stage been studying and a lot of reading about aquphonics have been in const.for 40 years comercial and residential so my 2sons and I can build anything wiring framing fabricating concrete welding sawmill plumbing drawing plans we are good at it all we are the ones people call when they can't find Somone to fix their prob so I think aquAphonics is a good project for us.
I would like to grow herbs and vegies to sell besides growing our own food that's my plans I'm just really tired of growing in dirt and all that is involved with that !
Thank you! I look forward to filling out my details after this weekend (it is Winter Wineland up here in Sonoma County and I am the chef for a winery) but I look forward to meeting everyone and learning more. Cheers! ~Kate
thanks jack. what do you do for aphids. Came back after Christmas to find plants with many aphids. I crushed 2 garlic cloves and added a few drops of soap, but it can't get them all. I put some under a scope and watched as the mixture got on them. It seems to kill them if they get enough to drown.
The tomatoes started out on the shelf along the wall, but I had to move them. They were still getting chilled 12" in from the windows. We had a brutal winter last year. They were happier between the tank and the stove.
Jack, I did get my greenhouse going. Let me see if I can add a couple of pics. It's a nice place to be when there's snow on the ground and the temps are below zero.
We ended up not doing a pit, but put it against the south side of our old farmhouse. It serves as a place for my aquaponics, a greenhouse, and it protects the house a little more from prevailing winds. Also, when the furnace went out after Christmas last year, I was able to keep the house warmish with the little wood stove.
Hi Jack.. thank you.. am lookingforward to learning as much as possible to be able to set up this year. We are off grid in SOuth Eastern BC and plan on building an addition off the kitchen to house the Aquaponics. We currently have large biodynamic gardens and a small orchard and of course are limited by the seasons. What is the best way to learn what we need to know without going to Colorado.... I do have Sylvia's book. Thanks a bunch.... looking forward to a new adventure!
Thanks Jack...... been reading up on AP for a year or so and we decided to put it into practice this year. Hoping to find advice I need here, and meet some like minded folks.

I made wicking beds from gutters for my strawberry plants. I used day-neutral plants and had strawberries in March!

My raft beds atop a 300 gallon tank. It can crank out the lettuce!
The little stove insert that kept us all warm last winter. (tomatoes on the left)
