Kitchen window aquaponic set-up.

No Amonia or Nitrite (well maybe just a little) but 160+ Nitrate

My system completed its cycling a little over 2 months ago.  I am raising a nice amount of lettuce and not much else.  I have 25 tilapia in a 180 gal tank.  The fish are 2.5 to 3 inches in length.  They eat like pigs.

 

The grow bed is 12 sq feet under 600w Metal Halide lighting run for 18 hours/day.

Drinking the Aquaponic Kool-Aid

I'm from Indiana and many years ago I went to collage in Berrien Springs and then Lansing so I know about the wind-chill factor and lake effect. You poor soul! My situation isn't much better; in fact other than the heavy smog (all year long) we have here, it's quite the same. Hot muggy summers and bitter, dry, cold winters.

Getting Started

I took my first step today in starting an aquaponics garden - bought a green house kit from Harbor Freight. It will take me a week or so to do prep for green house installation but I'm excited.
