I think you would find it interesting (perhaps appalling) that I don't know anything about gardening and have never owned any garden tools or even a lawn mower. I'm interested in urban gardening and aquaponics an a kind of abstract way at the moment.

Hi again,

You can raise just about any freshwater fish. I'm afraid sole is a saltwater fish, isn't it? People are raising catfish, perch, trout, and a variety of ornamental fish in the U.S. If you post some inquiries in the Fish Types forum I bet you will get a load of responses and suggestions.

Hi Susan,

I'm impressed that you are jumping into this even though you clearly have some reservations. Here is a link to an excellent "primer" on aquapoinics that will give you a basic foundation - http://attra.ncat.org/attra-pub/aquaponic.html. No, you don't need to kill the fish if you don't want to - koi and goldfish work very well, and I can't quite bring myself to harvesting my tilapia either.

Once you have read the article, don't hesitate to get into the forums here and start asking questions. About half the members of this community are newbies just like you. good luck!
