i am a physician working as a private medical practitioner in Nairobi. My wife and I have a small greenhouse in the backyard. We started catfish farming as a hobby. We grow strawberries on the towers and other vegetables on the beds (flood and drain). We are almost giving up due to many problems. For one, slugs are and multiplying on the strawberries. Two, the catfish feed is very expensive. Does anyone there know how to get rid of the slugs. We pick crush or throw them to the fish but it seems a futile effort.

Hi,

If the said slugs are what I believe they are, the slimy creatures- the best remedy is common salt.  You may try to remove these from the plants; then insulate the  Aquaponics system just above the ground by spreading some common salt crystals.

Somewhere I have seen people   provide a band of very thin copper plate- 4-5 inch wide - on the support leg of FT or GT,  which shall not provide enough grip for these creatures to climb up.

And, as regards the feed, why not give the fish a portion of what ever you eat.  If they don't co-operate, change them for Tilapia which is omnivorous !!

Best of luck, Sam.
