I work for a water garden company out of Lawrence, Ks.(ANYTHING AQUATIC) We build and maintain water gardens and bubbling stones, full season from spring start to fall netting and winterization, Ive just recently learned of Aquaponics gardening and was very interested as I know how well water garden plants perform in a well balanced system. Ive since constructed a 500 gallon system (300 gal. reservoir and 200 gal. upper grow basin (8'x12'x4"-8"). I see great potential in Aquaponics gardening as a way to supply a large community with great quality produce while still maintaining a small footprint and conserving resources. I hope to one day start an Aquaponics operation capable of doing so.

I have been trying using coco coir packed into small 7/8" net pots,  start seeds in 10-20 tray then transplant to rafts.  seems to be working okay.  Rockwool seems to work okay, I just hate the cost.  Oasis horticubes are much cheaper, but harder to find.

The one thing I have come to find is I didn't have nearly enough fish.  From what I have found, you need about 1# of fish per Cu Ft of grow bed.  That is a lot of fish.  Run the numbers and consider how much a fish weighs.  I had 40 goldfish from 4" - 8" long.  Most on the large size and i didnt have enough nutrients to support my system.
