I too started with media beds and then switched to DWC. But I ran into problems with particulates on the roots. It's important to keep the media for filtration and then run the DWC as a bonus. Take a look at this post I made on my blog for more of an explanation
What a nice place to live! And your garden house is beautiful. Do you have to supplement light and heat in the Winter?
I'd also like to know more about the filter above the fish tank. Your lettuce looks great; do you remember which variety it is?
