I see a lot of people using some pretty high intensity lighting systems. In speaking with a few scientist recently I realized that a lot of the benefit of some of these light sources is the heat…Continue

"Ya, there's some energy savings I'm sure, but it's a 45 watt pump, so at full blast it's costing 10 cents a day to run so I'm not too concerned. I'm much more interested in ways to get my water temp up with less energy."

"I was wondering if people were using them for reduced cost in electricity. Large diameter tubing pushes more water and variable speeds at different times of the day greatly reduces power consumption.  I am one of those energy geeks who invented…"

"As I just posted in another thread, I wired a dimmer switch onto my oversized pump and it works well. It's nice to be able to crank it up if I need to move a lot of water for some reason, it's great for adjusting the flow when trying to…"

"I think for most people (with indoor systems) getting rid of the heat from high-intensity lights is the main problem... getting enough light on the plant without "cooking" it to death; and without overheating the water by getting the room…"

Infrared Light??

I see a lot of people using some pretty high intensity lighting systems. In speaking with a few scientist recently I realized that a lot of the benefit of some of these light sources is the heat generated for the plant.Has anyone tried using infrared light sources to reduce energy but to make plants feel that they are warm and in perfect conditions to grow?If so, what wavelength of light are you using?See More

"There shouldn't be any problem as long as you factor in the fish type and density and the type of seaweed that you are going to use. do you know how heavy a feeder the seaweed is? what type of fish are you going to use, are they omnivores or…"

"I have been in the LED industry for 14 years.  I am an inventor of many LED systems... but I have to say - LEDs are not for all applications.  The more I read about aquaponics the more I realize that it is less about the intensity of light…"
