Hey John, here's the link for the conference http://aquaponicsassociation.org/ . There's also one on the home page on the site and you can find info about it in the event listings here too. Its in Orlando, Sept 16-18th You can even take the Epcot behind the seeds tour for free if you attend the conference!
Hi again John! Yes, definitely a Paisan, my name gave me away, huh? ;) Glad to welcome you here, but I am only the substitute welcoming committee in our fearless leader's absence. This site is the brain child and labor of love of Sylvia, who is on a well deserved vacation.
I am glad to hear you are a recent convert from Hydroponics. While it boasts its own growing benefits, I definitely think Aquaponics is the way to go. You are lucky to be moving to Hawaii as you will be close to our friends and mentors over at Friendly Aquaponics. Check out their website for commercial trainings they should have coming up later this year. Our Friendly Aquaponic Commercail Training is here in Florida right after the conference in September. Perhaps a Florida vacation is in your future! Lol. Be sure to check out both!
Without running some specific numbers, I couldn't tell you off the top of my head how much grow space would be required to support a million pounds of grow out a year. Possible? Yes, as long as the proportions are right, really any size system is conceivable.
Thanks again for joining and let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics. There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions. Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.
A great place to start is to read the “How to Use This Site” link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Home page. You might also find the “Aquaponic Gardening Rules of Thumb” guidelines helpful.
Please add a profile image, participate and check in with us every day! We are constantly posting news about aquaponics and the good food movement.
Normally Sylvia Bernstein, the community's founder, would be welcoming you, but she is enjoying a well deserved vacation and I am helping out by welcoming new members in her absence. I am certain she would be excited to have you join and she will be looking forward to getting to know you upon her return. Thanks again for joining us, and I too look forward to getting to know you too. See you around the site!
