I'm 1 year into aquaponics with 50 sqft growbeds and 48 tilapia. I have learned a huge amount doing this.
Tilapia can't take big rapid shifts in temperature, PH, ammonia levels or dissolved oxygen.
High water temps (summer) removes dissolved oxygen. Low water temps (below 50f) kills bacteria that removes ammonia. Fish can't handle a ph shift of more than .2 in a 24 hour period.
