I just put my aquaponic system together on my patio...and I can't get the guard to keep the hydroton out. There are long grooves in my 6" grow bed. Yikes. Any ideas?

I've been growing plants for a few weeks now.  I'm ready to add gold fish if all the chemicals and Ph are right.  Wish me luck.

Herb: Earl Phillips here from Murfreesboro. Not enough information to get an idea whats going on! I built my grow beds 12" deep with 8" lava rock and 4"-5" pea pebbles from Wal Mart and I have trouble with them getting into the bell siphon area also when the holes I drilled in the lower area of the grow bed were well below the first zone. That water flow when it drains creates a lot of suck for sure. I found a skinny pebble in the bottom of my fish tank this A.M. to my surprise.  Feel free to come and visit me sometime.  I am retired and am flexible.
