No problem Heidi...Yeah, those plants have got it pretty cushy in there :)  Our weather has been really goofy the past few years too.

Since you guys live where you do, checking out 'sand bed culture' (in an AP setting) might be worthwhile sometime down the line? A Dr.Mark McMurtry et al. at NCU did a bunch of research using AP sand bed culture back in the 80's. A lot of which was expounded upon to gives us AP as it is today...Free media, no rocks :)

Here's a small PDF with a good bibliography and resource appendix for AP reading material, if you don't already have this...http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/Travis/Attra%20Aqua.pdf

I wish you luck and success in your new adventure :)

Whew!  You are not kidding...I am super impressed and someday maybe I will try it - but LOL  I think for now I will stick to getting my fishless cycle going, my plants planted and see where it takes me.  I can not believe the growth on them though.  It is one of the reasons I started researching HP and then AP systems is the length of time (short time) it takes from seed to harvest.  As an avid soil gardener and the changing weather patterns I have had my fill of not reaping what I sow...now I hope to change all that!  Thanks again for the info and sharing it with a newbie!

Hello Heidi,

I describe in a bit of detail what/how here...http://aquaponicscommunity.com/group/fish-less-systems/forum/topics...

It's an experiment for a specific set of conditions...

Very Nice!  What do you use for a media ?  It looks like a combination of hydroton and ?  I had wondered about mixing different media but wasn't sure if the hydroton would always work its way to the top because it is so light.
