Vertical wall unit

I used empty soda bottles for the vertical wall unit. Using an old soldering iron, I melted out the holes. Then putting the neck of the bottle through the bottom of the next bottle I then put the cap on (with drain holes in the cap
) until I had a single unit of 4 bottles. They are attached to the wall with small screws. The water is supplied via drip irrigation nozzles from home depot and is tied into the water lines from the pump. Each column cycles about 1 gallon an hour.

Comment by John Tannius on June 8, 2011 at 12:27am: I was worried about algae at first. I remember from my old high school biology days about plants and the color green. Basically, plants are green because they absorb all the light waves except for th green which bounces back. The same can be said of the soda bottles. The only light filtering through the soda bottles is green which algae can't use. That's the theory anyhow. I have some clear bottles on the wall as well so I can compare algae growth.

Comment by Chris McMahon on June 7, 2011 at 10:04pm: I may do this as I have about twenty of the two liter bottles saved up for recycling. I went on a sierra mist binge awhile back. It was basically the only soda at the store that didn't have high fructose corn syrup in it.
