On the floor yes. Up where I have this one a bit more work. The solids are easy with a siphon system and 25 - 50' hose. The bird netting will be a bit more trouble but very seldom should need cleaning.

Stay tuned, we shall see. Just went on line a few days ago and hasn't even had time to grow the bacteria. Will take a few weeks I bet to see a real difference. Not a mechanical filter after all.

I simply stole my biofilter I made for our new, still under construction, raft bed. Here is what it looks like and it takes up very little room as the swirl filter is inside the media filter (bird netting). I ended up drilling about 6 1" holes rather than the slits in the 15 gal in my original concept. Everything else is the same. Here are a few actual pics:

Hi M,

With 40 hungry trout I don't thing anything I put in that small housing will help for long and that's why I am pumping it thru a 30 gal filter (in addition to the 5 GBs).

cut out the paper filter and replace it with a A/C filter.  hold it in place with zip ties.  it works great for me without clogging
