Chris,

I am using 1-6mm clay pellets. This small size gives the roots more support and as you can see enough space to grow abundant. I also experimented with clay pellets size 2-4 mm and those are even better.

If you want to try this out, don't forget to make a drain on both sides of you grow bed. The drainege is much slower then normal pellets. With only one drain your growbed will overflow on the side where there is no drain.

The biggest advantage i have noticed is that i can grow tomatos, cucumbers, different sorts of fruits and lettuce, paksoi and such, all in the same growbed without any shortages. I don't know why but hey, most important thing here is that it does. The biggest advantage i think is that you can sow directly in the growbeds without the need to replant your seedlings.
