This is the beginging of my crawl space aquaponic system. I have dug down just enough to have a walk way to access the fish tank and the grow beds with head room. I have reinforced this walkway with dry stacked cinder blocks which functions as the base for the grow beds as well. For the fish tank I dug a large V-shaped channel at the end of the crawl space and lined it with pond liner material. It holds about 800 gallons of water. At this point I am fine tuning the bell siphon flood and drain action on the first grow bed and from that model I will plum the other five beds. There are ten gold fish in the fish tank now to start the cycling process. I have 13 Blue Tilapia in an aquarium that are waiting for the system to get established. The water temperature in only 52 degress. Way to cold for the Tilapia. I have wired a grow light array above the grow beds. I plan to construct a aluminum lined reflective channel above the lights that I hope will also retain sufficient heat to heat the water as it passes through this reflective channel. We will see.
