Johnathan, It worked....but it was alot of work getting it set up. The pipe had to be cut and then drilled. The window screen had to be cut, then stapled into cone shapes to fit inside the pipe. When the 'matters got bigger, they tended to fall over....even though they were supported from above.. Not too long after this picture...to keep the sun out of the water......I put ground cloth over the trough, and cut slits for the plantsto come up through..
I perfer media beds and rafts. Media for larger and long term plants....rafts for lettuces, spiniach, bok choy, ect.
Tractor supply carrys feed troughs. Check your local feed stores too. I think a 10ft trough was around $120- 130 at Tractor supply. They 'might be' a foot deep, maybe slightly less.
Not too big of a deal....If you put gravel in them...you'll need to lay wood acroos the steel suports that hold the bottom of the plastic bed. Other wise...the plastic 'bows' down between the supports.
Looking forward to hearing what you decide to do.
Two questions for you if you don't mind. 1.How well does this potting method work compaired to a float bed or media bed style? 2. Where can you get those long narrow growbeds? I've seen other people with these too.
I have been using the large black concrete mixing tubs but I need more growbed! Either something like this pictured here or build a box and pond liner style. For now, lower the cost the better.
