I had to add a heater, thermometer and small bubble air stone to the aquarium in order to give the fish more oxygen. I also purchased a Fresh Water Master Test Kit it is essential. After having the system up and running for about 5 weeks I am still working with the nitrite level. The system is not built to remove solid waste so I have to remove the waste at least once a week from both the aquarium and the base sump tank. The level is finally starting to decline so I think I am headed in the right direction.

I think if I had to do it all over again I would start with a fish-less system known as fish-less cycling. The road to a healthy system for plants is very hard on the fish you can count on losing some. I use guppies and 1 bottom feeder.

I recently bought one also! I am so excited to get it up in running within the next couple of months. It can be difficult to find the right fish for the system though. I am considering using guppies or mollies (2-3 fish) and putting a small heater in the sump. They are beautifully designed. I will post some pictures soon.

I bought one of these for my son a few months ago. A friend of mine from work also purchased one recently. You certainly have the right idea because both of them said that they needed a light to help their plants grow. They both had the system tucked away in some dark corner. There is a video on youtube somewhere of a person who installed little LED lights for the fish tank and set them on a timer. It was two sets of lights with brighter lights for daytime and "moon" lights for night.

I am really enjoying my Aquaponical System that I purchased from The Aquaponic Source. My system has only been up and running for a month and I have leaned a lot and continue to do so. This will be my indoor herb garden. I will be using this small system to learn before moving on to something a little larger.
