Well it is a 13 by 20 and 99 dollars at a home depo. Set up early this year, lol. It's already late for me and I'm not done.So much to do, so little time it seems. <3
Ah nice. It was probably pricey though right? I didn't realize they had a 20 year guarantee so that is a nice investment. Black is ok if you are up in MO like your profile says. Maybe you can even get it setup a little earlier in the season that way but I would agree it would be less attractive :)
You guys had me thinking and today I went and bought a pond liner that is UV safe. It is black though ad I wish it had been white, blue, or green. But it has a 20 year guarantee on it also
All poly liners or coverings will break down over time and become brittle and are easy to crack or put a whole in. UV resistant will just last much longer in direct sunlight... for a higher price. How much longer and how much more it costs I assume can very quite a bit depending on several factors.
I think the major issue with algae is that it steals nitrates from the system and when it dies off, puts ammonia back into the system. There are pros and cons and probably not an issue if properly managed and your system is healthy but it is an unwanted variable that's easier to just keep under control and not worry about.
I think the UV lining is what keeps the algae away and stops liners like I have from cracking maybe. The Craig's List is http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ but This is for my area, on the right side there are links to other states and country's. The only thing I thought you might want is to put some kind of other material on your cover because the sun can get through a clear cover ad cause you to have algae problems. Now I hear Tilapia like algae buy I don't think the plants do. I have a clear cover also, but I added a light colored bed sheet inside the plastic to filter out the sun.
Adrena Lee - The barrels are like $30 USD. If you change the currencies, not bad, just a bit more expensive. The pool can hold up to 1000L, but i only fill it up half of it. The material I used for raising my bed are steel frames, that has the L shaped. Cost me around $75Bnd to make them all. by the way, why do we need UV resistant lining? to prevent algae growth is it? and also, what is the website for the craig's list?
I don't think it is UV resistant. This is the second year I'm using it and it's not brittle at all so far. I have always had a cover over it that blocks out the sun mostly. My reserve didn't have a cover on it, but it's a half of plastic barrel in the ground and I think that's how I had a algae problem last year.
Is your plastic liner UV resistant? I was curious how long it has been in the sun so far and how it is holding up. I suspect that eventually it will become quite brittle but it is hard to say how long that will take. Even the UV resistant kind will do the same but it takes much longer.
I had to make a better top for it this year to keep out the algae. I used some old wood from a pallet and a bed sheet from a thrift store, with 6 mil plastic covering it. Inside I used some chicken wire to keep it from sinking so much in the middle. I put some hinges on it so I can raise one end up. Last year I had an algae problem from too much sun getting in.
Yes Chris mine is one of those dumpster like containers. I bought it for 40 dollars at a Lowes and added 6 mil plastic to the inside. I bought the bag because it was exactly the shape I wanted of 8 ft long by 4 ft wide.
