Randall, this is kind of a hybrid.. wicking bed/bioponics... my understanding of bioponics is... basically a fishless AP system, where the gravel is living and mineralization takes place in the media, you feed it good old organic soil food... worm casting and compost tea. .... in time i plan to have the ap water run through the beds... what Will we call it then? "integrated-bioponic-wicking beds"   ...i love this stuff!

Khmer, im not sure i understand your question... the wicking beds are the big big boxes in the middle of the picture... with the soil-coir blend. ...every thing else in the picture are DWC rafts.

yes Vlad. i was naming them when you asked, so i will call it that... so far im very pleased with the capillary action of the coir soil blend. i added "minerals plus" and "yum yum mix" to the soil and will run a "fish water based compost tea" through the bottom, have it return to a sump and recirculate, to avoid any anaerobic water. maybe i will tie it to the ap raft, but for now i want to keep it separate, and try the compost teas.
