Perhaps it was the heater that first electrocuted the fish? or was it the cold? You can get a cheap freeze alarm off Ebay that could warn you in time. I am playing with one myself. Shit happens and all we can do is set up failsafe alarms, etc. When we hit -20F our woodstove went out overnight due to green wood but the system water stayed about 49F while the GH dropped to 16F. All Winter crops thawed and were fine by mid morning. We were amazed. 2500 gals of AP water sure is a saving factor and we raise trout so they were quite happy.
