Aquaponics & aesthetics - I'd coin this as Nature Tech

I've been wanting to go solar too. The passive solar heater is to help take the edge off of the cold so that the fish, bacteria and plants can be more productive. I also only run the siphons in the greenhouses where the warmer air helps heat the water. The two beds that are uncovered I just run constant flood to minimize heat exchange.

Yeah I really dig the astro turf! They sell a roof top solar water heater down here too, but unless you live up in the mountains you really dont need hot water. Gotta love Costa Rica LOL I was thinking for my little kitchen herb garden they sell these little Coleman battery recharger solar panels, hook that to a car battery and in turn hook a small power inverter to run the pump. We shall see. My wife hates it when I go playing with new science experiments LOL

Thanks John. We moved in Oct 1. The astro turf and terraces were perfect for aquaponics. I'm picking up more koi tomorrow. :) btw, photo taken from the roof where I have a super cheap and simple solar water heater setup.
