We grew peas, to eat as shoots, and the root system ended up looking just like this.  We gave the finished tray to the chickens, they loved it so much, they ate every piece!

Yes and no Bill, the AP water works pretty well, but you dont need nutrients to grow sprouts. this set was on well water only, no nutes. all the other conditions have to be right  ... temp 68 ...RH 65% ...ph 6.5
