loop siphon
The tubs are interconnected with a 25mm (1 inch) rigid pipe. The loop bends just below the gravel line to define the water level at which the siphon must start. This is of course adjustable. The tubs flood and drain every 3 minutes.

This is exactly the plumbing setup I came up with and began using quite a few years ago. It works great especially for small multi-bed barrel units. The "secret" is connecting the grow beds with a common drain and only one siphon. This keeps timing issues at bay by allowing the beds to function as if they were one instead of two (or more). This results in no possibility of weight tipping, and so no need for any extra weight bearing framework like is often found in larger systems. It's been my experience that if the volume of fish water to grow bed water is not an issue that "joined" multi-beds and a simple siphon loop works quite well.
