very early in construction trying to figure out water flow and grow medium. i would suggest lava rock but only if you get it from a stone or garden supply house nothing decorative from stores like home depot it will be full of chalky color dust, will take for ever to rinse clean and you don't need that in your water.Its also cheaper for the non colored stone .
