Sure they will...as long as there is enough of what they need in there. But cucumbers of one of the most nutrient demanding crops that exist (more so than tomatoes which most folks think of as 'heavy feeders'...which they are...just that cukes feed even more heavily)...a brand new AP system isn't exactly a teeming smorgasborg of plant essential elements 'ya know...

Does this mean that cucumbers will not grow successfully in a normal IBC aquaponic bed? I had planted some cucumber plants, lost them to a freeze (or so I thought) and replanted a few weeks ago.

"Aha! I see," said the blind man. I read the thread all the way through until getting to the part about cukes at the end. This seems like an interesting prospect but, since I'm still a newb, I'll have to put it on my wish list of plants to grow next year. I'm trying to keep it simple and learn this first year. It's a lot of fun and challenging but I sure make a lot of mistakes.

Nope, cukes (unlike tomatoes) need quite the opposite. If you read the OP and  thread...http://community.theaquaponicsource.com/group/fish-less-systems/for...... the "secret" should be clear

Vlad, why do you have these cucumbers raised? Is it to keep the roots dry? I must know the secret so I can grow cukes in my system!
