Adam the containers are oil spill containment basins. 250 gal. I bought them at plastic mart online. Google containment basin and see what is close to you for sale. My rafts get flooded by my gravel beds about 110 gal every 20 min. When they flood they rise about 2 inches then the overflow pictured catches up and they settle back to 10 inches deep. I would put the overflow on the side due to the roots sometimes clog the overflow. I put in on the bottom due to if I dont like the rafts I can raise them and make gravel beds. I plan on converting on to gravel this winter. I just prefer gravel for ease of keeping clean and gravel has more flexibility on what you can grow.

Hey David, curious about the containers you're using, did you get these at a hydroponic shop? Also, do you keep your water level at a constant height in your rafts? I'm looking to build a raft and have my grow bed with media drain into the raft. Curious what has worked best for you.
