Yah you are right..I thought he's asking the use of it..The fist stage is made of 5 gallons empty mineral water.I put a Styrofoam to have a 2 division inside(inlet & outlet side) and strainer also.The 2nd filter, It has a strainer and a bell siphon inside.

Stage 1 & 2 filters are just for the removal of solid waste from my tank. This is to protect my grow bed for clogging up.Also, to minimize the grow bed maintenance.
