Best of luck with your endeavors Kim. Growing food at large is most fascinating. I wish I'd begun doing this a long time ago... a lifetime is not enough to learn all that there is about this.

looks like u have a lot of success so far!  I looked up "dual root zone" and wow, there is so much u can do in AP!  I'm new at this so i'm still really blown away!  :)  lots of luck to you.

They are 5 gal Hydroponic buckets with top hats. These buckets were nice becuase they were slightly narrower and hence a bit taller than the regular 5gal buckets one gets which helps in a few ways.

These flood and drain via an actuated ball-valve. I am changing this though over Dec/Jan 2014. I am going to be removing the top hats and will be using growbags instead. If you search for a thread called "Dual root zone" you'll get an idea of what i will be up to. These bags fit perfectly into these buckets and give me a number of benefits. How well this will all do... we'll have to see during the coming months.
