these are a blue x nile from Aquasafra (Tilapiaseed.com) in Florida. I set my thermo for 63 and they eat twice a day. i have fed them in temps as high as 86. they have done well for me, but the fastest growing fish i have ever had was the pure nile from Americulture inc.

Ernest,

I'm not a fan of RMWs.  They will tolerate lower temps, but tend to slack of on feeding at a higher temperature than other varieties I've used.  I run all of my fish between 68-73 during the winter and around 75 during the summer.  The RMWs stop feeding at 65 or so, in my experience.  So they'll survive lower temperatures but they don't gain weight.  Red Variant Niles are my favorite.  They'll eat until they die.

That's a beautiful fish. What variety is it? I know it's a Tilapia, but what variety?

I'm trying to find information on Rocky Mountain White strain. It's supposed to tolerate lower temperatures well.

Like in the 70 degree F. ranges rather than the 80 degree F. range. Its supposed to be a cross between a Nile and another variety. Grows very rapidly to about 2.5 pound then slows.

yeah, i've been checking fish and it seems to be isolated.  I usually lose about a fish a month to something random. It's way less than 1% losses per year overall, so I don't usually get to excited about it.  My new facility will have a design that allows me to decouple individual tanks from the system for treatment.

hahaha Nate.  As I give my presentation i will be sure to mention this.  It is important to remember, what happens between a man and his fish is his business, until he posts the pictures of said interaction on the internet.  It might be wise for you to also do a round of antibiotics buddy.

Hey now.  No need to get personal Matt.  It's all in good fun until you bring up my freaky blown-out butthole fish disease issues.  Then it's just hurtful.   My fish might not all have intact anuses, but that doesn't mean they're any less special than your fish, or anyone else's fish for that matter.  My fish are just "differently beautiful," compared to the classic beauty of the fish in the photo above.  Fish beauty comes in many different shapes and sizes Matt, and doesn't always have an anus.  Don't be so close-minded.

It is a dandy.  At least it doesn't have the blown out butthole look that Nate's does.
