Shade cloth will not build up excess heat and humidity. It will also prevent heavy rainfall from doing any damage to the plants.

I was just asking if the reason you put in the vent on top was because of the heat.  I'm thinking of building a hoop house type cover like that over my setup and I'm debating if I should bother with the plastic tarp or just go with shade cloth.

I'm not sure what you are asking. This pic is of one end of 40' troughs and my filtration system. I am working on doubling my media filter to the right back. The raft to the right foreground is a mini red romaine lettuce. It may not look good in this pic but when I harvested it this week it was full and delicious!! I have shade cloth over the plastic on these troughs. You can see it draping over the right side and in the vents in the ceiling. This pic was shown to display the use of recycled materials in the construction of media beds. I mainly used free pallets and other free material.

Too much heat without the shade cloth vent?
