The aquarium I used for the unit that is in the video is a stock aquarium.  I just had a piece of glass cut for the partition and supported it from the sump side as the fish area is always full and created the most pressure. The supports were glass as well and silicone in behind the partition.  I then put a piece of plastic channel on top of the partition for safety.  The tank modification requires no tools if you have the glass cut for you, and only requires food grade silicone to install.

Oh I see now! That's a custom aquarium. Very cool, I have always wanted to build something like this either using acrylic or glass. Being a college student it is kind of difficult to get space and tools though haha

The partition was held down about an inch or so. There was a screen to prevent the fish from washing over into the sump. When the bed drained it would dump into the fish tank, then overflow into the sump.  This way the fish tank water level remained constant.

I remember watching the video, how was there a sump tank behind it? did you drill a hole through the glass aquarium? How was the water drained from the tank into the sump without changing the water levels?

That was the purpose. This was the proto-type to the unit that we marketed on Sylvia's site.  Unfortunately it was out of most peoples price range.
