Neat! Since this was really my first full-size system, I just went for a gravity drip system. Siphons are interesting to me, but they seem like a lot of more work than I really wanted to do for my first setup. I wanted to do more research before I tried one, and I wanted to figure out a better placement for the growbeds. This is good for my first crop, though :)

I use nine mainly for a filter for the aquarim. when the water was filling the trays one or two balls would shift and get caught in the j siphon. What i did is made a raft for the platns and only fiiled the bottom 2 inches with media. leaving a 2-3 inch air space between the media and the raft. so now it fills to the bottom of the raft anything that flaots falls down to the media. when the syphon kicks in it pulls all the water through the media and traps solids. this whole process takes about and hour to cycle. I have had 10-6 to10 inch tilapia in the aqariam for 4 months with out any problems except the water is not perfectly clear but thats because the tilapia are diggers.I actually filed and recieved a patent pending on the system.

Earl, I don't have a problem with the hydroton floating since I only ever have a max of 2 inches of water at any given time. It's only a problem when I wash it ;)

I'm taking pictures as I go or this system. I'm a bit of a blogger and will be writing a full description once I finish the initial set-up. I'm moving slowly so as to keep the fish from undue stress. Fish should always be added slowly, and watched carefully for any signs of stress and stress-induced illness.
