Aquapoics design so far. I tweaked the drawing. OK here is the way it works. A 600 gallon in ground concrete fish tank. Approximately 60 to 70 tilapia fish will grow in the tank from a fingerling. The water from the fish tank is pumped up into two 17 foot by 2 foot grow beds filled with pea gravel. When the water gets about 2 inches form the top of the grow beds it will drain back into the fish tank thru a bell siphon PVC pipe. The plants will be filtering the fish tank and the fish waste will feed the plants. A production calculation I came up with is a system this size can produce about 150 plants in 40 days that sell for about 2.00 to 3.00 per plant. The fish can be harvest in about 6 months totaling about 78 lbs of fish. An average size of about 11 inches per fish. You can get about $2.25 per pound. A ruff estimate of a monthly income would be about $400.00 per month. Sue and I are not going to sell any product from this system. It is strictly for personal consumption and a learning process. There is no cost to run this except for a small water pump. We will grow our own food within the system to feed the fish.No filters to clean and no fertilizer cost and no weeds to pull. Just sit back and watch it grow. If we run this in the winter there will be a small heat cost but I have a plan to reduce that cost also. Tell you about that one some other time. OK thanks for taking the time to see what Sue and I are up to. We will keep you posted on the actual results.
