I originally I need to support the drain to prevent cracking of the bed container, but I ran in to a slow down of the siphon and would trickle for about 30 seconds before taking off.  What I did was changed the drain so that it would gain greater velocity and grab faster, which meant no need to do this.  The new drain eliminates 2 90's and still is supported by resting on the other side of the tank.

Hi John,


I will be setting up my first system using exactly the same set-up you've shown in your photos.  You mentioned on this photo that it's the "original L-shaped gravity T drain".  Why didn't this work, and why didn't you opt for the simpler version in the first place?  I'm thinking something to do with the syphon?
