Did a little reading up on Hugel Culture.  Now I get it.  Amazing what we can do when we put our minds to it.    Biochar definition:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biochar

Not sure what Biochar is bill, This is a hugelculture bed...essentially all the wood and layers of compost, grass, newspapers break down over time and leave you with a nutrient rich soil.The wood acts as a sponge and if done correctly you shouldn't have to water... unless it never rains.

Can you explain what's happening here? Are you making biochar?
