its been my experience that they grow faster and bigger in the gravel. we are doing some trials this seed set, i will document it and report the findings asap.

...dont get me wrong, if i had to choose, i would plant lettuce on the rafts, simply because its about all i like to grow on a raft.

...basil in gravel, without question. the type i like to grow get soo huge, they fall over in the rafts. now this really is all about your harvest style. if you cut multiple times like i do, you need the root support. if you are harvesting whole plants, then crank em out on the rafts before they ever get real big.

So gravel vs. dwc, which grows the largest lettuce the quickest?  How about basil?
