Great Idea Rupert, I'm sure it does a lot to save on cost and you can regulate, i guess, by flow rate. I've noticed you have a huge, varying sys, It would be great if you advanced guys put captions on your pictures, but i am aware that it would take a lot of time! I'm grateful that we don't have these issues here in the tropics...

Hi Harold, the black fish tank (under the grey trough) is heated by a purpose built evacuated tube solar array.

The solar array is made from stainless steel and differs from a household hot water system in as much as it isn't required to heat water to household temperatures.... which would be too hot for the fish....

This allowed the building of the array without the need for a large copper heat exchanger... copper being toxic to fish... and allows for the fish tank water to be pumped directly through the array...
