The Trash Mountain Project (Topeka, KS) is selling an Innovative Heat Concepts multi titanium submersible heater w/digital control panel and 3 heating units. Model # QDPTY-12KW-2:

Purchased new in September 2012 from Pentair and used in a 9,500 gallon, DWC aquaponics system. Used for 35 days in the winter of 2013-2014 and 10 days in the winter 2014-2015. Works great but we're going a different direction with water heating.

Does anyone know where I can get live Tilapia and good media in San Diego?  Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

General consensus says expanded clay (Hydroton) is the best but a little pricey in large quantities. You can find it in hydroponic stores and it pays to shop. What size system are you starting with?

I live in Ohio - around Columbus, where do I buy the best grow bed media.  I'm on a budget and I'm just getting started.  Can anyone chime in on this

Robert, I've done it with 8" and it works but the general thought is a total of 12" if you're using an IBC bed or similar for larger root support. I actually have a bed over an aquarium for growing seedlings that's 12"x45"x 3.5" and it has huge yellow squash and acorn squash growing in it. Never got around to transplanting them. The problem is that the plants have to be supported because there isn't enough depth for the roots to support the plants. So a shallow bed will be good for shorter lighter plants.

I've had 2 digital Ph pens and after a short while they didn't hold calibration. Strips aren't at all accurate.  The API test kit is a simple 3 drop test that is quick and more consistent as well. It just doesn't go below 6.0 but neither should you LOL. Might as well spring for the full 4 test kit cause you'll need it.    http://www.amazon.com/API-Freshwater-Master-Test-Kit/dp/B000255NCI/...

Our local ?Home Depot has hydroton.

Robert, Don't always expect to get immediate responses here. The chatter seems to run in spurts.

You can probably find Hydroton or some sort of expanded clay at your local hydroponics store. Just a suggestion, if you are filling a large bed do the first 4-6" in smaller lava rock. Hydroton can get expensive . If you use lava rock just sort through the bag and remove the real large rocks.

Almost any aquarium pump will work depending on how high you need to pump the water. Check them out on Amazon.
