funny that you of all people responds to me. Of all the posts I've been reading today (new member) I've seen your advice on both beginner and commercial postings and thought you seemed to know what's going on and I was going to contact you regarding consulting.  Funny also that you recommend Sweetwater because that is how I intitially got turned on to this site (James Godsill email today).  Unfortunately, the day they have that workshop (May 14) is the day that I already have volunteers, paid help, childcare, and tilling to be done two days prior  for my 10,000 sq.ft. organic vegetable garden that I already do. May not know anything about the aquaponics (but want to) but I've got my little roadside stand and flowers counting on me that day(well the whole month of May) and can't bow out.  Also, today I emailed the guy from Roadside Culture Stand, so bright minds think alike huh.. You definately caught on to the scale/direction I'm going in so I would love to hear more from you, but in the meantime, have to go change a poopy diaper, too bad I couldn't use that in the system. (sorry, I have a very sarcastic sense of humor, will try to clean it up) Kelly

Kelly, I think Sweetwater is going to have a mini system workshop coming up in May, that might be worthwhile to you for finding people/help getting started small scale.  And isn't the Roadside Culture Stand thing out of WI, you might be able to get them to give you one, Roadside Culture Stand

Looking for all aquaponics and greenhouse equipment for very small scale operation (farmers market, roadside stand, csa style, etc. not mass production/grocery stores etc.)  looking for used/reasonably priced equipment. I'm located in Delafield, WI.  Also, any reasonably priced consulting would be appreciated.  I know some of the large companies offering this service are certainly worth it but I don't have that kind of money to put into this at this time.

I just purchased 1 yard of expanded shale.  Just now beginning to wash it and get it ready for the grow bed.  I'll let you know how I like it!  So far, I'm thinking it's going to be super!!  Liking what I see!

Anybody selling bulk quantities of expanded clay pellets? Also, am interested in feedback from anyone who has used expanded shale.

I also would like to see a copy of the grant--I have no experience with them but I have a cause and the willpower.  Aquaponics for Kids on facebook.  Join the cause and donate to educate the kids about aquaponics.

No, I'm sorry I don't.  But it sounds like a fantastic project!  I would be happy to help in any way I can and would like to get a copy of the finished grant application.  If possible please send it to my email address.  coteart@gmail.com

I am looking to do a cost estimate for a mid sized setup for a high tunnel 30'x100' to be built at Evergreen State College.  Do you have plans for a similar sized setup?  I am submitting a grant application Thursday any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

I've done container gardening, but just now we have a new home with a yard, it needs a lot of work, and cleaning up, (it was a bank owned property), however, we have over 3,000 sq ft of yard to work with.

It seems prudent to take it slowly at first.  Do you have experience with other kinds of gardening?  Have you thought about how much you can budget for it?
Comment by Lynda Ellison on April 6, 2011 at 1:48pm

Yes, since this is all so new I don't want to overwhelm myself.  I want to have enough to share and enough for us to enjoy as well.  Does this make sense?

Hi Lynda,
By "a family farm type system" do you mean that the people on the Farm would consume all or most of what it produces?
Comment by Lynda Ellison on April 6, 2011 at 9:39am

My husband and I are in Massachusetts.  I am a beginner, my husband is in Heating and A/C so he knows systems, but I am looking for someone in the north east that we could work with, maybe help each other with a family farm type system.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Lynda Ellison

I would like to collaborate, possibly collectively buy, a CEB press and put it to work building AP facilities.  The Liberator II is an open source machine available for $8K.  A comparable commercially produced one would be at least 4X as much.  If you would be interested in investing or working with us in any way, please contact me off list.

Brilliant George! Thank for sharing :-)

I agree with Sylvia that this is exactly "the kind of thing that this page was set up for". If was nearer to me I know that if the lease numbers worked, I would love to consider a small commercial operation...what with a produce distributor right there...mind blowing :-)

God bless,

George, this is exactly the kind of thing that this page was set up for.  Looks like an incredible opportunity for the right person!  You might want to also list it in the Commercial Aquaponics group.
