Hi Everyone-

Just starting a raft system and will be needing 20-40 lb. of tilapia (or bluegill fingerlings if we can get them in our area.) We're in western Colorado but willing to come to the front range for pickup. Thanks!!

I got my duckweed from an fish store with koi ponds.  When I asked about ordering some he gave an exasperated sigh, handed me a fish bag and told me to take as much out of his pond as I wanted...

I have a very cheap source from a nearby,(Jacksonville,) fishery. I am just getting started and need some advice on a few things. Where does one acquire Duckweed? If you call me:904-374-5197home, 904-333-3519cell, I can get you fingerlings all day long for 1.00 a piece. Tilapia, blue gill, catfish, etc. Forget paying a fortune for colonies!  petmonkees@gmail.com. I have discussed the discounted price and my name as a referral will get you taken care of. I need some help if anyone in Jax. could come by and see my set up to educate me further, I would be grateful. I am on SSI and am looking forward to eating fish and produce for free. I can't buy fish on my budget. Have a Blessed day and call me for your fish deal!!! Pamela Nixon

@David Nash - My daughter is up in Clarksville and might know someone in the area.  She has some herself but I don't know if she'll part with any.  She'll be back in town on Monday and I'll ask her for you.

have you tried this site David? http://tilapiasource.com/zc/

Looks like their min order is 25 fish for $2 each (plus shipping I expect) but if you contact them you might be able to get a smaller number of fish for the same total min price (basically pay $50 but ask them to only put ten fish in.)

Yeah form the internet - like $500 for a breeder colony of 4 or 5 fish or $250 for 25 fish...  Right now I am starting small, and the wife needs to SEE we can grow fish to eat before she lets me dig up the yard...  I have 2 aquariums and a 50 gallon barrel with goldfish and only need 5 or 10 tiliapia to take next step.

I have thought about catfish, but want to start with something I can breed if everything works.

There are people willing to ship small numbers for a breeder colony but you will probably spend even more money on that.

Does anyone know where I can get tilapia in Middle Tennessee...  muy set up is not large enough to meet the minimums for shipping, and I am just about ready to get some from the asia market... (even though I bet they will be sick and all male) :(

Thank you Sam for doing your part in promoting Aquaponics - keep up the GREAT work!

No, you have to take 50....just kidding.  Of course someone can have less.  Based on their system size they can do the math of 1 fish per 5 gallons of water and I'll give them what ever is needed.  I guess I should have said I would give someone "up to 50" free tilapia fingerlings.

Comment by TCLynx on August 9, 2011 at 9:04pm

Hay Sam, are you also willing to give away smaller numbers to some one starting out with a small system?

(that person isn't me of course but many new small systems really are not appropriate for taking on 50 fish from the start unless they are actually fairly large and already fishlessly cycled.)

I have 1

500+ Blue Tilapia fingerlings (1" to 4" in size) for sale or trade if anyone is interested.  I'm located near Daytona Beach and they must be picked up here.  I am not setup to ship them.

I will GIVE AWAY 50 of them to anyone that is just starting out in aquaponics just so long as you have your system setup and ready for fish.  Shoot me a private message if interested.

I'm getting ready to put in a group order for catfish, so far only Ron has re-confirmed he is still interested.  Anyone else please let me know ASAP as I expect to see if they are ready with them next week.

I also have advanced Bluegill fingerlings available $1 each if you come visit and have a big cooler with a battery powered bubbler, I'll be moving some in prep for quarantine of the catfish so if you want to get some before I move them let me know ASAP.

Bluegill are real splashers at feeding time
