Hello, Ohioans - I just found this guy on Craig's List - he works for a window/door company just outside of columbus, OH, and he's got a bunch of 3'x7' styrofoam sheets (about 1" thick). He's selling them each for $1. I got some for insulating my fish house in my garage system, and they'd probably work well for rafts if doubled up. Here's the link:

Sorry Bryan,  I'm just very very unimpressed by this guy.  I think he means well so I think I'll just drop it.

Finally, a cheap bio-filter:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvSgfqwa_dA

I used a 32 gallon rubber maid trash can for a vinyl pool just under 1000 gallons. It's very clear!

Got my tilapia from etched today, they look really good, only one didn't make it, which was awesome considering the post office lost my package for two days...

@Pamela, Not really the right place for this discussion but you don't want inbreeding do you?

Why don't you switch the discussion to my Tilapia Breeding group?

Yeah, I agree. $41/lb is an awesome return though

I do not get why fish colonies are so costly...In these challenging economic times, I just don't get it. My source sells by numbers and I assure you, there are many females with the male fingerlings. You can sex them yourself and have a colony for far below what seems to be market price. Heck, maybe I should sell some colonies...I have enough females to make 6 or more colonies. I'll trade out for system assistance-plumbing is not my thing.

I am setting up a 500 gallon system, should start cycling it next week, would like to try raising tilapia when the system is cycled in a couple of weeks.  I am in northern Illinois, is anyone close by that could sell me an ample supply for this size set up or mail them.  Email me at shilellagh@comcast.net.  Also looking for Koi for another setup that is already online.  Thanks, Dan

I need the BEST resource to set up an initial system.   My son is a sick kiddo and needs to eat Watercress every day.  I can't afford that, so I'm going to grow it myself.   I have a 16 x 16 sunroom that I've cleared out and ready to start working ont the fish.  I've read a lot, but the plumping and pump systems look a bit intimidating to me.  I need help, I live in the St. Louis, MO area.  Please point me to the best book, or resource to get started.  Thanks!!
