Don't know where you are but try your local landscaping store. Try to get the smaller rocks for better surface area plus it's easier to grow in. I covered lava rock with expanded clay balls for easier planting.

Chris

Thank you.  I was thinking along the lines of (1) feeder fish and (2) fishing bait.

That is good to know about putting them in troughs

Comment for George and David B. If you are looking to control mosquito larvae and having a hard time getting Mosquitofish, I have used swordtails from an aquarium store. They are from the same family of fishes and are very effective at controlling mosquito and fly larvae. In a system I set up in the Dominican Republic, we had a terrible mosquito problem. I put 25 swordtails in the systems grow beds; within 3 months I had 200+ fish and zero mosquitos. We are actually thinking about selling some back to the aquarium store.

Hi George,

I Did some mosquito fish capture in my backyard over the last couple of years. Its a pain in the butt!

It took serious time for me to just catch a handful. But i managed to get a couple of preggers females (in season).

I could go @ it again if you can't find them elsewhere for $1 each (it REALLY WAS a pain in the butt!). As many as you like (plus shipping).

Look on Craigslist though. I think i saw somebody offering many more for much less money from somewhere in Central Florida. They were offering pond stocking services.

Cheers,

David

Hey Everyone,

So my hobby has gone a bit out of control and I'm looking to downsize. I'm selling off my indoor aquaponics system made from a 275 gallon IBC tote. Because I used it as a floating raft system I built a custom filtration system for it which uses hydroton. I do still have the top portion of the tote if you want to use a media bed. It has a 400 gph mag drive pump, and included are 60 blue tilapia measuring between 2 - 3 inches. Also included is about 40 pounds of fish food. I am asking $300 or best offer for the system. If interested you can text me at 352-346-4928. I am located in Louisville Kentucky and can deliver at an additional cost if close by. Thanks

I am looking for Gammarus (Scuds) that can handle the water temperatures and North Central Florida.South Florida variety will not do; the cold water in winter 40 degrees  F at times kills them.

Lost my job, relocating, need to sell my system so I don't have to move it. I posted on CL with a few pictures. Will be disassembling in a few days to prepare for move.
