Hello Matthew,
I read your post "seeking volunteering opportunity".
We are running an aquaponics project in the Maldives (Flood & Drain and now
starting also deep water circulation on rafts).
We are currently looking for a volunteer, experienced aquaponics person to
help us to bring our aquaponics system to maturity faster.
As I am financing everything with my private savings money, I can't pay a
salary, but I can offer the chosen person free holidays, food and lodging on a
real paradise virgin island in the Maldives.

I will be attending the aquaponics course at the University of the Virgin Islands in March, and following the course i would like to spend a couple of months volunteering my time with an aquaponics project somewhere in/near the Caribbean.

I too am seeking a position with Aquaponics. Now in SC but ready to relocate in southern states. My abilities include carpentery, plumbing, electrics, ornamental concrete and resin lay-ups among many other skills. I am semi-retired so can be flexable with terms. PS, I want some chickens!

Aquaponics Facility Manager - Erie, PA

The goal of the Children of Resettled Families Agriculture and Education Project is to expand upon the UECDC’s skill-building services by offering community agricultural and work initiative programs that will provide Erie’s clients and constituents with marketable skills in horticulture and business management, all the while, giving the UECDC an economically-profitable initiative that will help supplement organizational expenses and monetary support. 

The UECDC is now prepared to move into phase two of the planning process, which consists of the building of an Acquaponics system, which is an environmentally-friendly waste-to-food design that integrates aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (soilless plant production), to allow for the self containment of the ‘urban farm’ through a series of tanks, enabling the UECDC to raise crops in the fraction of space that is traditionally needed for terrestrial agriculture.
The Aquaponics Facility Manager will be expected to help in the development of this project through both the planning and the implementation stages. Job responsibilities will change as the project progresses from planning and building, to actual implementation.

Internships/jobs at Friendly Aquaponics in Hawaii

Spend six months in sunny Hawaii and learn everything you need to know about aquaponics to successfully work on OR operate a commercial aquaponics farm.

This is the deal:

Six months on the farm, free semi-private room and free food (and we eat very well!), free hot showers, free internet, free washer and dryer, and we include you in trips to the beach and other excursions with our “Farmily”. We teach you EVERYTHING we know about aquaponics, aquaculture, tilapia breeding, system chemistry, plant biology, mechanical systems, business, and marketing (as much as you can soak in, anyway). You will have an awesome opportunity to get a tan (well, a farmer’s tan). You participate alongside us in our day to day aquaponics activities from Monday through Friday; we give a free farm tour every Saturday, often go to the beach Saturday afternoon, and take all of Sundays off.

Here’s the financial arrangement: You pay us $1,800 before arrival. This covers your expenses while in Hawaii (room, board, laundry, electricity, utilities, and internet, for six months, which is a value of $11,438). You also get to attend one of our twice-yearly group Commercial Aquaponics Trainings at no charge ($1,500 value), and receive a copy of our most-current Commercial Training package along with that training.

People come to us all the time for much less training and experience than you will get from a Friendly Internship, and we DON’T feed them or house them. We begin training interns immediately upon their arrival on the farm, and put a lot of time and effort into sharing our skills and knowledge. Unfortunately, we’ve been disappointed many times when we put a lot of effort into people that sounded great in emails, only to have them go their own way soon after arrival, so we are now asking for a fee to make people take this opportunity seriously. This fee is 80% refundable in the first two weeks if you find we are not a perfect match, but we will tell you everything we can think of before you arrive to help you make sure we ARE a good match for you. Of course, we will give you a list of interns (both past and present) who can tell you what it’s like here. The reason we structure our internships the aforementioned way is that if an intern bails after a month, we have something for the trouble we went through. This also gives the intern a reason to stick it out through the “carry water, chop wood” period that sometimes comes before you fall in love with aquaponics. With your great attitude, flexibility, curiosity, and willingness to learn, we offer you a whole new life. PLEASE NOTE: at the end of your six-month term, if we find that we’re a GREAT match, you may be offered a full-time position with salary and benefits. This offer is contingent upon your completing the six-month internship, and is at the full discretion of both you and the Friendly Aquaponics “Farmily”. Also, we are very interested in finding a farm manager couple who can take over running the entire farm. So, if you’d like a long-term position with us, please contact us right away.

This community (AP) reminds me of how the personal computing industry started ... with teckies sharing information freely and ramping up the ideas and practical solutions until they gelled into the Atari, Apple, and the Microsoft operating system, etc. Hopefully, the early innovators will be documented as the industry grows, as it will because it is such an appealing, sustainable contribution to the world's need for local food production.

I'm of a mind set that if you are here and working on aquaponics already, you are smart enough to create your own job.
Lets all stick together and help each other out, and I'm sure with like minds we will overcome just about any obstacle. I may not fit in here, but I know just a few of us can help others through out the world. Isn't that what its all about? I haven't seen any selfish or greedy people here since I've arrived.
