Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics. There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions. Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.
A great place to start is to read the “How to Use This Site” link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Main page.
Please add a photo of yourself and participate!
Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you.
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. . . Man, have I been busy. Anyway, in answer to your questions: I run my pumps constantly. I save money in the long run because most pumps last a lot longer when run continuously as opposed to lots of hard starts. The worms do really well, actually, incredibly well in the towers. . . Some towers have several hundred worms in them now- I may have to start removing them.
Water is distributed using a simple manifold, and because my system is overpowered I can run pretty constant pressure to both near and far nozzles. I've come to love a large pump.
on harvesting- I do complete harvests primarily because I'm doing a study looking at fresh and dry weights. That's the only reason. If I were doing production commercially or for myself I would only take bits and pieces- I would only harvest the whole plant after it's fully mature and I was ready to replant.
